Multi Bookbinding wins the Binding Category at the 43rd Gutenberg Gala

On May 29, 2025, at Marché Bonsecours in Montréal, the 43rd edition of the Gutenberg Gala brought together over 400 professionals from the printing industry to celebrate excellence and innovation.

During this prestigious event, Multi Bookbinding was honored with the Binding award for the Anurijuq project, produced in collaboration with Deschamps Impression for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

An Outstanding Project
Anurijuq is a 216-page book, sewn softcover cabriolet style with a Swiss binding, allowing the book to open completely flat for a refined and comfortable reading experience.

The main technical challenge was reconstructing a continuous image across the inner spine. The 14 sections were sewn with purple thread and positioned with extreme precision to ensure perfect alignment, consistent with the artistic concept 50 Shades of Purple. To preserve the visual aesthetic, each section was scored on a platen to avoid fiber cracking when opened. The unprotected glossy spine required meticulous gluing.

Another challenge involved inserting a 16-page signature that was 3.5 cm shorter than the rest. The final three-side trim was executed with extreme precision to avoid marks and deliver a flawless finish.
