Perfect binding

At Multi-Bookbinding, our expertise in perfect binding, commonly called adhesive binding ou thermoreliure, is one of our specialties and a pride of our company. This expertise, developed for over 25 years, has confirmed our position as a bookbinding leader in Quebec and has earned us numerous prizes. We bind close to 4 million books each year because of this specialty.

Multi-Bookbinding is well-known for this type of binding, which is typically used for binding books and magazines with square spines.

– Perfect Binding allows the binding of a large number of pages in an efficient and effective way.

– Perfect Binding also gives a sturdiness to documents, all the while maintaining quality with its style and format.

Technical Standards :
Perfect Binding is suitable for documents with spines varying from 0.0625 – 2.5″ (1.6 – 63.5 mm).
Equipment :
Multi-Bookbinding has two Kolbus production lines consisting of up to 19 feeding units. These units are equiped with cameras that have the capability to detect different technical problems during production, such as inversions and the mixing-up of sections. Such advantages ensure great quality control while remarkable production safety. At Multi-Bookbinding, our equipment allows us to produce over 70,000 copies each day.

We have the tools needed to reach production speeds surpassing your expectations. Our equipment can run up to 8,000 volumes per hour. Our expertise along with our sophisticated equipment makes us a fast, reliable and innovative partner.

Glue :
As indicated by its French term thermoreliure, perfect binding uses hot glue to bind the pages together. Over the passage of time, binding and gluing technologies have developed and improved. Today, we benefit from superior glues in order to gather and bind documents requiring a high wear-resistance by using PUR (polyurethane reactive) glue. This glue is very flexible and is recommended for binding products where the paper grain direction is perpendicular to the spine (cross grain).

Certain products require more glue than others. Items that will be used regularly and need to have a long shelf-life, such as product catalogues, art books and cookbooks, should be sewn. This mechanical step of sewing elimates 100% of the risk of having pages fall out of a volume while using it.
